PRE AND POST PROCEDURE CARE

CARING FOR YOUR PERMANENT MAKEUP BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT, IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY - FOR THE LONG TERM.

Pre and Post Care

Please review the pre and post care info for your desired procedure in the drop-down menus below.

There is a significant amount of misinformation circulating online regarding pre-appointment guidelines. Given that our tattoo procedures are gentle, non-invasive, and do not involve any cutting of the skin, there are few factors that would disqualify someone from being a candidate.

To assist you in preparing, we’ve outlined the essential information in the drop-down menus below. The only information we require from you is whether you have any diagnosed clotting or skin healing disorders. If you have any doubts about whether a specific condition may be a contraindication for the procedure, we strongly recommend consulting a physician. Additionally, if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or undergoing chemotherapy, we would need to postpone your appointment until after these circumstances have passed.

If there are any moles, lesions, excessively dry patches, or other irregularities in the area where you wish to receive permanent makeup, we will be unable to tattoo over those areas. A dermatologist can evaluate and remove any concerns, and once healing is complete, we can proceed with the procedure.

We would also be happy to discuss any of this information with you personally. Please feel free to reach out for a complimentary consultation to determine which styles and techniques will best suit your needs.

Pre and Post-Care for Brows + what to expect

    • Avoid skin care products with active ingredients near the treatment area for 2-4 weeks before the appointment.

    • No chemical peels or laser facials for 2-4 weeks prior to the appointment.

    • No Botox near the treatment area for 2 weeks prior.

    • No Filler near or in the treatment area for 4-6 weeks before and after your appointment.

    • No alcohol for 24 hours prior to the appointment.

    • Limit caffeine intake day of appointment to avoid anxiety or restlessness at the appointment.

  • FIRST 24 HOURS, REPEAT 4 TIMES:

    1. Wipe tattoo, underneath brow hair with sterile water wipes

NEXT 24 HOURS, REPEAT 4 TIMES:

    1. Gently cleanse and rinse with gentle cleanser and water.

    2. Pat dry with a clean tissue.

    3. Apply a THIN layer of ointment, under your brow hair. Less is more.

REMAINDER OF THE WEEK, MORNING AND NIGHT:

    1. Cleanse morning and night.

    2. Apply THIN layer of ointment as needed.

  • FIRST WEEK AVOID:

NO RUBBING, PICKING, SUN, EXCESSIVE SWEATING, CARDIO, SAUNA, LONG HOT SHOWERS, HOT YOGA, FACIALS, MAKEUP ON BROWS

    FIRST 2-4 WEEKS AVOID:

Avoid anti-aging products with active ingredients in them such as, vitamin A derivatives (Retinol, Retin-a, etc), and acids on your forehead and brows.

  • WHAT TO EXPECT WITHIN THE FIRST 7-10 DAYS:

    • Bold/darker color, mild asymmetrical swelling, redness, thickness for the first few days

    • Flaking will occur around day 4, and will look like thin pieces of pigment coming off. May look patchy in this stage. This is just your epidermis (first layer of the skin) flaking off along with some of the excess pigment. There is still pigment in the uppermost layer of the dermis (second layer).

    • Flaking will subside around 7-10 days and pigment will be 15-30% softer (sometimes more) than when your brows were fresh.

WHAT TO EXPECT WITHIN THE FIRST 6 WEEKS:

    • Pigment may appear to lighten and darken at times. This is just the skin’s cell renewal process.

    • Wait until the full 6 weeks to truly judge your brows.

    • Based on your retention, I can always adjust my technique if needed to give you your desired and best results. It is my responsibility to work conservatively at the initial appointment to gauge what your skin needs, rather than run the risk of applying too much pigment into the skin.

    • Please refer to the bottom of this page for long term care for your brows!

How to care for your permanent makeup going forward

  1. Laser Facials & Chemical Peels: Advise and remind your technician to avoid your brows and lips.

  2. Anti-Aging Products: Anything that accelerates skin cell turnover MUST not make direct contact with your brows; simply leave a space around your brows and lips when applying these products. Gentle moisturizers are safe for your brows. If you’re unsure, please reach out to us.

    • Retinol, Retin-A, Tretinoin (+ all other Vitamin-A derivatives)

    • Glycolic, Lactic Acid

    • Vitamin C

  3. Sun exposure: Protect your permanent makeup with sunscreen to avoid pigment turning colors and/or fading faster. Bonus points for also wearing a hat. The best types of sunscreens are mineral based.

  4. Lip Tattoo: Keep your lips moisturized with a healing balm, to keep them looking their best. Chapped lips never look good with or without a lip tattoo! Plus a lip balm will keep the color looking vibrant.

  5. Brow Lamination + Tinting/dying/henna: There’s mixed reviews on whether or not the chemicals from brow lamination may lighten/change the pigment in the skin over time. Especially if you have the hair stroke brow, it’s not worth the risk. You may safely tint/dye/henna your brow hair 4 weeks after procedure.
